DIG IT

You found us! As most of you already know, your Dig It isn’t like most machines out there today. These machines pound for pound out perform any competitor. What you may not know is that they ceased to exist as a manufacturer in the early 2000’s. There were a few attempts to resurrect the product line. Those attempts never really got off the ground. As a company and one of their largest dealers back in the day and much to relief of many, Maverick, Inc. has been able to source most parts for the many machines that are still out there working.

We have parts available for most models. The Towable Models: 128, 138, 148, 158, 248 & 258. Also the most popular and a true iron horse 198T Loader/Backhoe. As well as its successors the 2008 and 2208 Dominator Series.

Things you might want to know

Is Dig It still in business?

As a company, No. Dig Its were not manufactured after 2001.

What parts can you still get for Dig It Backhoes?

It is easier to tell you what you can’t get. We don’t have: Seats (we do have the rails), most any decal, the boom pivot, sheet metal, most individual valve controls or associated parts (complete valve assemblies are available on some models), the hydrostatic transmission (call for more info.), sheet metal, the lock out hub on the towables and some smaller parts. That is a preliminary list. It is best to call. We’ll admit we don’t know everything and people are quite resourceful. Feel free to contact us if you have information we don’t, that could help other customers.

What information do you need to get the correct part?

The model of your Dig It is the first place to start. Application and part numbers (if you have a book) are helpful too. There are a few components with different variations. Unfortunately they can have the same part numbers. The good news is we know what those parts are and what questions to ask. These variation often are on the front end and rear end of the loader backhoes (198T, 2008 & 2208). PRO TIP! - We try not to assume anything when ordering parts (for anything) and want to take the time to get the right parts the first time.

Cylinder Seal Kits?!

We can get seal kits. They are specific to the cylinder. Dig It used a few different manufacturers. People often have trouble getting seal kits. We have them and need the number off the cylinder to be sure we provide you the correct one. PRO TIP! - All Dig It Cylinders have 5 Digit number (not the HYD #). The number begins with the letter “D” and is followed by 5 Digits (DXXXXX) and is usually located under the tube that runs the length of the cylinder.

Replacement Cylinders?

We have replacement cylinders and don’t require the 5 digit verification that the seal kits do. We just need to know the model of your Dig It and the function/operation of the cylinder.

Are manuals available online?

Printed copies of the manuals which include an operations/maintenance section and component parts lists, can be purchased for $29.00 plus postage.

Is there a Repair Manual available?

No. There are no manuals that provide a detailed list of “How To” for Dig It machines. The printed manuals are your best source for general maintenance information and specifications.

Engine Parts?

All Dig it came with an 18hp Kohler Engine. The first series of machines were a Magnum Series (M18) and the later models as well as the replacement engines are a Command (CH18). As with any engine in order to get parts specific to the engine we need to know which engine. Also, for almost any engine part we have to have the serial number and spec number located on the tag on the engine. Those numbers are required for specific engine components like carburetors, pistons, etc.. Unlike some manufacturers, we cannot not identify your engine number by the serial number of the machine. That was not information that was shared outside of the now non-existent manufacturer. PRO TIP! - Sometimes people are fortunate to have gotten the operations/parts manual with their machine and someone took the time to write those numbers in the front of their book. Assuming they never replaced the engine that has proved helpful.

Splined Pump Shaft?

Dig It Engines have a unique trait in the fact they have a splined bushing that the Hydraulic Motor slides into. It does make it difficult to source an off the shelf engine or even a replacement pump. We have both the Replacement Engine and Replacement Hydraulic Motors. Where did Kent go?

I suppose where everyone else that knew about these machines went. Kent was our Dig It mechanic who was here in our Dig It ”hey day”. He knew all there was to know about Dig Its and took that info with him when he retired in 2010. Last we knew he was some where with his wife taking advantage of the time share he wished he never bought. In simple terms we know some things, just not always enough to provide a lot of technical assistance.

Our Staff?

Those of us who work here started in 2000 and later. We know the Dig It is hard working backhoe and hard to replace with current model machines today, especially for the cost to operate. We have an extensive knowledge of the parts required to fix you Dig It and what parts are still available.

How long does it take to get my parts?

We are located in Iowa so proximity is a factor. We say 5-7 business days if you are in the Central US and 7-10 if your closer to the coast. For more information, call us at (800) 685-2818 or use the email form here.

If it looks like a Dig it?

Unfortunately, just because it looks like a Dig It and has a Dig It sticker doesn’t mean we can get parts. Like a 118. The best we can tell is that a small number of early machines may have been prototypes and we have no information to support them. The only models we have been able to source parts or provide support for are Dig It Towable Models 128, 138, 148, 158, 248 & 258, Dig It Loader Backhoes Models 198T, 2008 and 2208.
